SONG OF THE DAY: "Rebel, Rebel" – David Bowie

Song: “Rebel Rebel”

Performed by: David Bowie

Album: Diamond Dogs (1974)

Sorry for posting so late today! I wasn’t feeling well in the morning, and then the day job took up the rest of the day. BUT, I DID do my Couch to 5K running and workout in the morning, so…YEAH! Day well spent!

Anyway, today’s Song of the Day – the last song that was playing on my iPod as I completed my jog – is “Rebel Rebel” by David Bowie.

Enjoy!

SONG OF THE DAY: "Same Love" – Macklemore and Ryan Lewis feat. Mary Lambert

Song: “Same Love”

Performed by: Macklemore and Ryan Lewis feat. Mary Lambert

Album: The Heist (2012)

Last week, I started the Couch-to-5K program for the second time. The first time was months ago – I got to Week 5, then stopped. Boo.

It’s a 9-week program, and this time, I plan on going all the way! Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are my running days, and I plan on doing each week of the program twice, to get comfortable with each one before moving on to the next.

So, I thought that on those days, my Song of the Day would be the last song playing on my iPod as I finished my running. Just to mark the fact that I finished that day’s running. Also, so you can get to know the kind of thing that’s in my iPod. Also, because this is the kind of thing I do. 🙂

Today’s Song of the Day is “Same Love” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Enjoy!

I hadn’t heard this song in forever, and suddenly, when it came on my Spotify “Random” playlist yesterday, I found myself dancing in my seat until eventually I was dancing alone in my living room! 🙂

Today’s Song of the Day is “Play” by Jennifer Lopez. Enjoy!

SONG OF THE DAY: "How Much Is That Doggie In the Window?" – Patti Page

Song: “How Much Is That Doggie In the Window?”

Performed by: Patti Page

Album: single – released by Mercury Records as 70070 (1952/53)

This is a weird one, I know. But it kept coming up this weekend. I was re-watching Spaced on Netflix, and this song features prominently in the episode “Leaves” from S2, when Colin runs away to that creepy old woman’s house. Then, I was watching S1 of American Horror Story (great show!), and the song came up there, too.

What amazed me is that, not only is this a novelty song that actually exists, but that it has endured to the point of still being used on television shows in the late 20th/early 21st Centuries. Why this song wasn’t lost to history, I have no idea, but props for sticking it out, Song!

Today’s Song of the Day is “How Much Is That Doggie In the Window?” performed by Patti Page. Enjoy! And if you have a dog (or dogs), give it a hug for me! 🙂

SONG OF THE DAY: "Jesus Christ" – Woody Guthrie

Song: “Jesus Christ”

Performed by: Woody Guthrie

Album: Woody Guthrie (1944) / first written in 1940

So, a friend of mine sent me this article about Pope Francis, his feelings about capitalism, and his venture to become the Coolest Pope Ever. (Which kinda isn’t difficult, but still)

Then, he said that the article reminded him of this song, which he also sent me, and I have to agree! Woody Guthrie knows what’s up.

Today’s Song of the Day is “Jesus Christ” by Woody Guthrie.  Enjoy!

SONG OF THE DAY: "The Ruler and the Killer" – Kid Cudi

Song: “The Ruler and the Killer”

Performed by: Kid Cudi

Album: The Hunger Games: Songs From District 12 and Beyond (2012)

The other big geek event this past weekend was the release of Catching Fire, the second film in the Hunger Games series. I’ll be writing about that later…but in the meantime, here’s my favorite song off the soundtrack to the first film, which is actually more appropriate to Catching Fire, if you ask me. (PS – nobody did)

Today’s Song of the Day is “The Ruler and the Killer” by Kid Cudi. Enjoy!

SONG OF THE DAY: "Still Not Ginger" – Chameleon Circuit

Song: “Still Not Ginger”

Performed by: Chameleon Circuit

Album: Still Got Legs (2011)

This weekend was a big one if you’re a Whovian. Saturday marked the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who, and the BBC (and fans!) marked it in several ways, which I’ll talk about in a later post.

But, because I’ve still got Doctor Who on the brain, today’s Song of the Day is related, too. Here’s “Still Not Ginger” by Chameleon Circuit in honor of the current Doctor. Enjoy! Then, go eat some fish fingers and custard. 🙂

SONG OF THE DAY: "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" – Smashing Pumpkins

Song: “Bullet With Butterfly Wings”

Performed by: Smashing Pumpkins

Album: Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995)

Because it’s “Throwback Thursday” and nothing says “throwback” like music you listened to when you were in high school.

Also, I’ve been having the feeling lately that just when things are starting to go well (and there have been some good things happening lately), a whole bunch of crap happens to knock you back down again, and it’s sometimes difficult to feel like the strides you’re making are actually making any difference at all.

Despite all my rage, I’m still just a rat in a cage, indeed. 🙂

Anyway, today’s Song Of the Day is “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” by Smashing Pumpkins. Enjoy!

I’m in a very Latina mood today. 🙂 So here’s one of my favorite Spanish-language songs of the ever-ever.

Today’s Song of the Day is “Mi Tierra” by Gloria Estefan, from her album of the same name. Enjoy!

SONG OF THE DAY: "Slide" – Dido

Song: “Slide”

Performed by: Dido

Album: No Angel (1999)

It is the best of times, it is the worst of times. Dickens knew what was up. Last week, I did an amazing job of structuring my week now that I’m working mostly from home to get both day job stuff and writing stuff done, and I even made time during the day for “me time” – time to read, time to meditate. And then…I fell behind. Sunday and yesterday were all over the place, and the calming equilibrium I found seemed to have been frittered away and replaced with my usual panicked inertia. I was a deer in headlights again.

I have to remind myself that I’m not going to get it right every single day, but that 1) it’s OK, and 2) that’s no reason to give up entirely. Today is the one day a week where I have to leave my apartment for a day job, so I’m going to do that, after which, I’ll get back on the productivity horse tomorrow and get back to the structured day I’ve created for myself that I’ve realized that I really, really need in order to be at my best.

And because sometimes we all need a comforting talking-to, today’s Song of the Day is “Slide” by Dido from her debut album, No Angel. Enjoy! And don’t be so hard on yourselves today. 🙂
