TJEVlog #3: Be a F@#!ing Ray of Sunshine!

I recorded this vlog about four days after the Boston Marathon bombing, but am only putting it up now because I haven’t had time to edit and upload it. A lot has happened in the past ten days…but the main point of the vlog remains the same. I hope you’ll give it a watch.

AUTISM IN LOVE (Or, Happy Autism Awareness Month!)

You’re gonna be hearing a lot about diabetes on this blog over the next year, but there is another cause that is near and dear to my heart – autism awareness. I have a nephew and a niece on the spectrum, but while they each have their share of difficulties, they are also ridiculously brilliant and have enormous hearts.

So I, of course, would love to think that when they become adults, someone else will see their brilliance and kindness and fall in love with them. I mean, duh, right?

A new friend of mine, Carolina Groppa, is producing an amazing-looking documentary that I’m super-excited about called Autism in Love. Check out the sizzle reel above, and tell me that you don’t want to meet each and every one of those people! What’s interesting, too, is that as they’re talking about the autism-specific challenges that these people face with regard to relationships, all I could think was – It’s not just autism. It’s hard to find love PERIOD! I want to tell each of these people that they’re not alone in their struggles to find happy relationships. People without autism have plenty of trouble in that area, too! That’s not necessarily a great piece of news, but at least it’s something we all have in common! :)

Autism In Love is having a Kickstarter right now, and there are 19 days left. In honor of Autism Awareness Month, consider backing this really awesome project, and tell ’em Teresa Jusino sent you. 😉

TJEVlog #2: LIFE SNIPPET (Filmed 4/6/13)

Lately, I’ve been using the video function on my point-and-click camera a lot more when I’m out and about, just capturing random stuff. It amazes me that I’ve had this camera for years, but have rarely used it for video…UNTIL NOW. :)

This week’s TJEVlog contains footage from my very first “Teresa’s Hike & Brunch,” a hiking (and brunching) meet-up I started and that I’m organizing twice a month that will both help me get in shape for the POUND BY POUND Pledge Drive, and allow me to stay in touch with friends. Marvel as my friend Heather and I…are lazy and take the easy trail. 😉 YOU WON’T WANT TO MISS IT! Also, we’re cute.

Enjoy this little glimpse into The Teresa Jusino Experience!

TJEVlog #1: Introducing the Pound By Pound Pledge Drive!

My dad and my mom. Probably from the 1908's sometime. Not sure exactly when, but I just love this photo. They both look so fabulous, and so happy.

My dad and my mom. Probably from the 1980’s sometime. Not sure exactly when, but I just love this photo. They both look so fabulous, and so happy.

As I mentioned in my previous post, today is the anniversary of my mom’s passing. It’s been seven years, and I still miss her all the time, usually when I’m doing something awesome that I instantly want to tell her about…but can’t. I’m hoping she knows.

It’s also my friend Adam’s birthday! He’s one of my BFF’s in New York. I miss him, too, and I wish I could celebrate with him this weekend. Have fun being old! :)

Anyway, I thought it appropriate to do my VERY FIRST VLOG this week, because I wanted to announce an effort I’m taking on this year in honor of my mom, and I’m hoping that all of you who read this will want to get in on it! So, watch the video below and do what it says! :)

RETCON: Behind the Scenes

Miley directs Sean, Verton, and Yuri. Photo by me.

Well, there are only 11 days left in RETCON’s IndieGoGo campaign. If you’ve been thinking about backing us, now’d be a great time!

As you’re thinking about it, why don’t you lookenzee at our new Behind the Scenes video, featuring interviews with Firefly’s SEAN MAHER, Ben 10’s YURI LOWENTHAL, and ME from…um…that PBS thing where I played an FBI agent in an ill-fitting, polyester skirt suit. Anyway, the video’s pretty rad, and the boys are hot. :) Check it out!

RETCON on IndieGoGo!

If you have been following my goings-on at all (and really, you must have, otherwise why are you here?), you’ve probably heard about the web series RETCON on which I’m a writer/producer. You can follow the show on Twitter, like our page on Facebook, or sign up for our mailing list at our website!

However, today was an important day for the show. Today was the day where we took our first steps toward actually making RETCON a reality. We launched our IndieGoGo campaign!

Me and RETCON creator/star Miley Yamamoto as we (so-not-nervously at all!) launch our campaign.

We’re trying to raise $30,000 by September 30th, and so I’m asking anyone within view of this post to do two things:

1) SPREAD THE WORD. Send the link to the IndieGoGo campaign to everyone you know! If you’re so inclined, spread the link on our behalf once a day for a week. Just one week. It would be such a help.

2) BACK THE CAMPAIGN. If you like the look of the video (many of the same people involved in producing the video will be involved in producing the show) and want this story to be made, or you just want to support a project I’m working on (ideally, you want both!), please give within the first week if you can. Obviously, your backing will be helpful any time during our 30-day campaign! But giving during the first week will help us build some much-needed momentum that will encourage others to give, too.

What video, you ask? Here it is! Watch, and adore:

Amazingly hot actors, a brilliant crew, a funny script, and SEAN MAHER DEMANDING A LATTE! What’s not to love about this video? :)

I moved out to L.A. a year ago this week (more on that later! Can you believe it’s been a year already?!) to write and make things. With your help in making RETCON successful, I’ll have a chance to do just that! I’m really proud to be a part of this project, and I hope that we can all go on this journey together. Thank you for whatever you can do!

Update, and Why Garfunkel and Oates Speak to My Soul

By SebbyWhite on DeviantArt.

Hello everyone!

So, there’s a lot going on. But, because there’s so much going on, I haven’t been able to set aside time to write about it properly, because there are too many other things to write/do/prepare for. So, this is just me letting you know that 1) I’m not dead, and 2) that I will be attempting to keep a more regular blog (as well as more regular writing of an internet nature in general) after June 1st, which is an important deadline for me.

Until then, please enjoy the latest Garfunkel and Oates video entitled 29/31. It pretty much speaks to my soul. My 32-year-old, shriveled-ovaried soul:

Intro: The Fray Project

Hello, world! At long last, after taking way too long to create the relevant pages on my blog, I am finally ready to present The Fray Project! It’s something I’m doing for me (putting structure to a whole mess of self-improvement stuff I’ve been doing lately), for you (I just might clue you in to a fun new way to exercise, a way to save money you haven’t thought of, or a cause you’d be interested in supporting), and for others (I hope to be attaching a fundraiser to this. Stay tuned).

Watch the video, check out the tab up top, and come along with me on my journey to be even more badass than I already am! And who knows? You just might learn something. Or at least have some mild entertainment at work when you should be entering data into that spreadsheet.

Birthdays and Anniversaries

It took me all day to post this, because I was out at a really long meeting, then had a really crappy internet connection for a bit. However, as it’s only just after April 5th on the West Coast, I’m going to post this video I made earlier this morning.

It’s a celebration of birthdays and anniversaries. In honor of my mother, and in honor of a good friend.

Do I look like “nobody” to YOU?

Traveling to Los Angeles? Worried about getting around without a car? Not looking forward to spending the cash to rent one? Fret not. Geek Girl Traveler offers weary wanderers words of hope (while providing a PSA to folks who live in Los Angeles)! Check out this video (notes and photos below):

  • A downfall I forgot to mention in the video is that you have to pay every single time you ride a bus or train. There aren’t any free transfers (you might wanna take a cue from NYC on this one, L.A.). So, each ride is $1.00/$1.50, but you’ll have to pay that 2-3 times depending on where you’re going. Metro buses/trains are $1.50, DASH buses are 50 cents, The Big Blue Bus is $1.00, and the Culver City Bus is $1.00
